ABOUT Lucy Withers

Dynamic and freely moving between painting, sculpture and installation, my personal art practice is constantly evolving. With a focus on shape and colour, I predominantly look to manipulate the formal elements to create artwork that really brings out the joy of creation. Often turning to matt emusion and spray paint for impact, I look to create work that leaps off the wall with its boldness, bringing giant lobsters, looming statues and bunches of asparagus to life. No subject matter is off the cards for me, with previous work exploring collections, food, trash, microoragnisms and a hundred other different things along the way that act as sources of inspiration to me. Swayed by both optimism and cynicism, various emotions emminate from my work. My current artwork considers consumerism and how marketing, slogans and packaging are designed to turn us against ourselves and ridicule our flawed, but precious, humanity. Alongside this, I have been exploring painting and drawing natural landscapes and flowers, taking joy from outdoor scenery and plants. My contrasting lines of investigation keep me on my toes, allowing me to draw from all aspects of life to fuel my creations.
